7 Mumbai Railway Station Names To Be Changed Soon

Mumbai: To replace colonial-era names with more culturally appropriate titles, member of Parliament Rahul Shewale has campaigned for the renaming of 7 suburban railway stations in the city. A major step toward recognizing historical and cultural significance has been taken by Chief Minister Shinde, who has reportedly accepted the plan in principle.

Proposed Renamings of Railway Stations:

  1. Currey Road to Lalbaug
  2. Sandhurst Road to Dongri
  3. Marine Lines to Mumbadevi
  4. Charni Road to Girgaon
  5. Cotton Green to Kalachowki
  6. Dockyard to Mazgaon
  7. King’s Circle to Tirthankar Parshvanath

Additionally, subject to central government clearance, there is a proposal to rename Mumbai Central Railway Station as Nana Jagannath Shankarsheth Railway Station.

Rahul Shewale underlined the significance of releasing colonial influences and recognizing India’s sovereignty. The enthusiastic response from Mumbai residents has spurred governmental action, and Chief Minister Shinde’s endorsement is a major advancement. The idea will be sent to the federal government for final authorization as soon as the state government issues a formal approval.
