Hardik Pandya will be the New Captain of MI in IPL 2024

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya has been named as the captain of Mumbai Indians, it is officially confirmed now by the Mumbai Indians(MI). He has replaced indian ODI and Test format captain Rohit Sharma who is the longest-serving and highly successful captain of Mumbai Indians. Under Rohit’s captaincy, MI won 5 Titles which is the highest title won by any team in IPL. Mumbai Indians bought Hardik in 15 Cr. from Gujarat Titans(GT) in the IPL auction 2024. Hardik Pandya was the captain of Gujarat Titans where he led the newly arrived team Gujarat to victory in the first year itself, GT was also the runner-up team of the IPL 2023. The good news for Rohit’s fans is that Rohit is not going anywhere he will continue to play for MI but Rohit might leave MI in the 2025 IPL mega option and play for another team if not retained by MI.

Commenting on this big change, Mumbai Indians global head of performance Mahela Jayawardene said, “This change is part of staying true to the MI philosophy of building a legacy and being future-ready. Mumbai Indians have always been fortunate to have exceptional leaders. From legends like Sachin and Harbhajan to stars like Ricky and Rohit, they not only achieved instant success but also focused on building a stronger team for the future. Upholding this approach, Hardik Pandya will be the captain for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 season.

Expressing his gratitude to Rohit Sharma for his excellent leadership, Jayawardene acknowledged Sharma’s extraordinary tenure as captain since 2013. Sharma’s leadership not only led the team to unprecedented success but also established him as one of the finest captains in IPL history. Under Sharma’s guidance, MI became one of the most successful and beloved teams. The team looks forward to Sharma’s continued guidance and experience on and off the field to further enhance MI’s strengths.

This can be a big opportunity for Rohit Sharma as well because this time he will be free from the responsibilities of captaincy, so we might see him in action mode this year, which will be a perfect treat for his fans.

Hardik Pandya has not yet recovered from the 2023 World Cup injury against Bangladesh on October 19, hope he’ll get fit and fine very soon and led the MI and take the team’s performance to the next level in IPL 2024.
