Alpha Sports Issues Legal Notice to Sony TV, Shark Tank India, and Tramboo Sports

Kashmir-based cricket bat manufacturer Alpha Sports & Co has issued a legal notice to Sony Entertainment Television Ltd, broadcaster Shark Tank India, and two participants of the show, seeking compensation of Rs 500 crore. The report specifically names Saad Tramboo and Hamad Trambu, co-founders of Tramboo Sports Pvt Ltd, who appeared in an episode of Shark Tank India Season 3, which aired on January 30, 2024

This legal notice, reviewed by INC42, relates to the alleged distortion of facts by Tramboo Sports while it was playing on Shark Tank India, causing damage, loss of business, and mental anguish to Alfa Sports & Co. The company has been in the business of “making light willow.” and so on for years, Tramboo Sports took exception to the aerial rumors that only batsmen have creative power.”

According to Alfa Sports, Tramboo Sports co-founders source the cricket willows used to manufacture bats from Alfa Sports but allegedly presented this as their own product on Shark Tank India. Alfa Sports has stated its intention to pursue the matter in criminal court if an immediate apology is not issued by Sony TV and Tramboo Sports on national television.

The regulatory report also revealed that Tramboo Sports is involved in sourcing and stocking bats and is not involved in manufacturing them. The alleged false claims by Tramboo Sports have reportedly caused a loss of employee confidence, reduced sales, and adversely affected exports from the original manufacturer

Besides, Tramboo Sports’ claims that they have the technology to match Kashmir willows with English willows were questioned, and Alpha Sports insisted that this was not a unique Tramboo proposal, according to former Jammu chamber chief minister Mufti Mohammad also announced similar plans as the Sayyid.

Direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand Trambu Sports explained that it does not currently have any manufacturing facilities, and operates on a contract basis The company manufactures the ‘spice’ system in its own factory. The co-founders of Tramboo Sports insist that they never claim to be the only manufacturer in the business and openly mentioned more than 300 products in Kashmir when they appeared on Shark Tank India.

The regulatory notice and subsequent response from Tramboo Sports provide insight into the challenges and challenges facing the industry in cricket bat manufacturing, particularly in terms of intellectual property, manufacturing, and product and technical design in the public domain.
